Things we could print with a 3D printer......why not a fetus?

I came across an article on cnet. This one is a little strange, and I'm sure will be filling up our facebook feeds in the near future. Everyone has the type of friends who upload a sonogram picture to facebook while waiting for their bundle of joy. It's grainy, you can't tell for the life of you what you're looking at........until now. How about using a 3D printer, to print out a 3D model of Jr? This company is out of Japan, will charge you only $1,280 for the model, and ship it to you in a jewelry box.

Augmented Reality and Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats!!!!!! HOOOOOO!

Found an Engadget article about Augmented Reality and Thundercats.......enough said. The article brings up the question.....What if the packaging is more entertaining than the product? I'd have to agree with the author....."setting them up for a lifetime of disappointment"

Augmented Reality.......ART?

As we near the end of the semester I find it hard managing time for my blog. It's about 11pm and I'm just remembering to post........So here you go.

I found an article form Wired magazine covering an art exhibit that utilizes AR. Turns out the Wired page is a blog about AR also. Be sure to check it out, the art exhibit looks pretty interesting and might make an impact.

Augmented Reality.....Quit Smoking?

I stumbled across this article from Marketingweek.com in the U.K, it's a couple weeks old but worth a glance. Apparently the British Heart Foundation has planted AR tags in cigarette packaging. Using the app Blippar on Android or iOS users can scan a pack of cigarettes and see the items they could purchase with the money saved from quitting smoking. The campaign slogan is "Swag fags for swag."
Don't take offense the term fag in the U.K. means cigarette. Not like the derogatory meaning here in the states.

Augmented Reality: More on Google Glasses

I found a recent article discussing Google's decision to manufacture their soon to be released Google Glasses in the states, from the The Verge website. I think it's and added plus for an American tech company to manufacture their device in the states. Apple is an American company, but, do a search on their Chinese factories, and you'll see some pretty crazy videos. Now, I'm not saying Google is better than Apple, we all know who is King, because of full control over your mobile devices, and who allows for total customization. I think this is a good step, Google tried this before, and then made a decision to cancel the release of the Nexus Q before the public could have a try.

What say you?

Well Spring break is over and it's time to get back in the grind. I want do something different this week, I'd like to take a survey on who in our class thinks augmented reality is the way of the future and who dosen't. Don't worry, theres only one question.

More Augmented Reality Apps

Now, I'm an Android guy, so here is a list of apps for Android. Not much to show this week due to lovely midterms, but have a look at some of the apps. Google Sky is pretty sweet. If you know of anymore list them in the comments below.

Google Glasses.....sign me up, oh wait!

There's been a lot of talk about Google Glasses recently around the interwebs. If you're not familiar with the glasses click here. The deadline to submit your application to be one of the first to test the technology ended today. Requirements were pretty close to a scholarship application minus the $1500 out of pocket for the tech, and the airfare to attend the "Special pick-up experience" to physically place them in your hands. All the science fiction movies we've come to love are coming to life. Could be a bad thing, or a good thing. What say you?

Augmented Reality....ish

This weeks post touches on some aspects of augmented reality. I tried to purchase this last halloween from Digital dudz website. Design is simple, an app powers the beating heart or gears, spiders, clowns, or anything scary. Your phone then rests in a cradle under your old shirt that you have purposely cut a hole in. Your phone's screen is seen through the hole displaying the app. Its a great idea, however, if someone calls or you receive a text your phone is under your shirt. I like the concept, but not sure about phone availability. Though, with no need for data connection you could always use an old phone with airplane mode on, to achieve longer battery life.

Let me know your opinion in the comments below.

Augmented Reality

One of the coolest technologies and advertising portals is Augmented Reality. The world is constantly evolving and the way we view advertisements is trending the same way. We all know of QR codes and this works in basically the same way. One company that I've come across, offers a great way to experience augmented reality, is Fingerfunk. You need two devices for this experience to work. Visit their website and download the chestburster app (iOS or Android), and the tracking image to trigger the animation. Try this out for yourself, or find me in class for a demo.
